02 Mar 2026

On the 22nd of February, the GreenPaths team organised the GreenPaths seminar: Steering the green transition at the University of Amsterdam. In the seminar, GreenPaths partners presented the results of Working Package 4 on the Institutional, regulatory and legal frameworks of the green transition in Europe. Yannick van den Berg (UvA) presented the project’s work on the policy coherence of green transition frameworks in Europe; Daniel Chavez presented the report on the Political Economy of green transitions; and finally, Vedran Horvat (IPE) discussed the synthesis work done to provide concrete suggestions for enhancing policy coherence.

The second part of the day saw a roundtable with experts and policymakers, Joyeeta Gupta (UvA) discussed the different ways fossil fuels are locked-in and the structural constraints for the green transition, David McDonald (Queen’s University) reflected on the role of public ownership and public finance in the green transition and finally Sjoukje van Oosterhout (Groenlinks/ PvdA) shared her experiences working on climate litigation and how national policymakers can make a difference.

Overall, the seminar reaffirmed the key role of interdisciplinary research and dialogue between academia and policymakers in advancing a just and coherent green transition in Europe.
