The European Researchers’ Night is the largest science outreach event in Europe, held annually across the continent, connecting universities and scientific institutions with the public. It brings research and researchers closer to people, attracting over 1.5 million visitors each year from Europe and beyond. Through accessible formats like quizzes, games, experiments, discussions, and other interactive activities, researchers present their work to the general public. The event promotes excellent research projects across Europe, inspires young people to pursue careers in science and research, and shows how researchers’ work impacts our daily lives.
The Universidad de Cantabria team presented some of their work conducted on the GreenPaths project to the general public on Friday 27 September. Researchers’ Night was held in the Plaza de Pombo, Santander, attracting, despite the rain, many hundreds of attendees.
The UC GreenPaths team designed a series of maps of Europe, using colour-coded zones to mark out different parts of Europe. Participants had to roll a dice and depending on the outcome, were asked different questions about regions in Europe. Questions focused on, for example, which areas of Europe were more or less vulnerable to climate change. This exercise heightened participants’ awareness of Europe’s vulnerability to climate change, as well as Europe’s varied vulnerability to Green Transition.
After answering the questions, the team members had discussions with participants about the project, giving out GreenPaths leaflets, including the website and the link to the promotional video.

UC’s stand attracted at least 200 members of the general public!!! You can see how the stand looked in these pictures.
